The general surgery program for fourth-year veterinary students aims to provide them with essential knowledge and basic practical skills in surgical practice. It includes the approach and restraint of domestic animals, as well as in-depth knowledge of general anesthesia techniques, monitoring, and locoregional anesthesia. Students are also trained in asepsis and antisepsis principles, the use of operating room equipment and instruments, and various surgical techniques such as incisions, hemostasis, and suturing. Additionally, the program covers common procedures, such as castration in companion animals, as well as amputation procedures.
